
Earlier this year Branded Research worked on a very exciting project with Depeche Mode and Mute Records to develop an iPhone application that turned the artwork of the bands new album, “Sounds of the Universe,” into an instrument. The album’s artwork, by famed artist Anton Corbijn, has 18 different colored pegs on it, and behind each peg is an audio loop that is triggered when tapped. The result users of the application can mix their own versions of Depeche Mode songs. The app features 8 different sets of loops for users to mix their own “Sounds of the Universe.”
Branded research worked very closely with Producer Ben Hillier to get all the audio working and sounding good.
Here’s what Ben had to say about the app”
“We wanted the app to be more than just a few obvious samples from the album, so we went through every track of every song recorded for SOTU and pieced together as many samples as we could fit into an iPhone. You can hear many of the constituent parts of the album and then mix and match them to create whole new songs.”
